Craig GroeschelWill you have the courage to obey the voice of God?
About This Quote
This quote by Sophocles is a perfect example of what it means to be a follower of Christ. It is a common misconception that the Bible says we should obey our “conscience.” The Bible never speaks of conscience as a person, rather as a faculty within us. We have more than one faculty, of course, and some are more developed than others. The conscience is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, but it is more of a moral sense or understanding that we all possess.
It’s more of an inner voice that helps us make good choices and avoid bad ones. The voice is not the Bible and it is not the voice of man. It is God’s voice and can be heard in all three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
